Government Arts and Science College Thondamuthur History 

Government Arts and Science College, Thondamuthur was established in 2017 as a Constituent College of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Formerly known as Bharathiar University Arts and Science College, Thondamuthur, this institution began with six undergraduate courses: B.Com (Professional Accounting), B.Com (Computer Application), B.A. English Literature, BBA, B.Sc Mathematics, and B.A. Economics.

Starting with approximately 225 students in 2017-2018, the college now serves nearly 950 students, both male and female. Located in a rural area with limited access to higher education, the college's mission is to provide quality, affordable education to economically disadvantaged students, particularly those from weaker sections of society.

Furthermore, the college prioritizes women's empowerment in this rural area, admitting a majority of female students, and is successfully achieving this goal. The institution currently employs 36 faculty members, of whom nearly 68% hold doctorates.

In addition to its standard committees, this institution has a number of welfare-focused groups, including the RRC, YRC, Eco Club, Swachh Bharat initiative, Women's Forum, Students Welfare Club, ICC, Fine Arts association, Consumer Protection Forum, Legal Literacy Cell, and Anti-Drug Compliance and Redressal Cell. With support from the Tamil Nadu government, the college offers skilled courses under the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme, providing employment opportunities for its students.
